Position Summary:

The Director of Nonprofit & Small Business Development position is a blended role of leadership for two core programs, the Nonprofit Incubator of Beaverton (NPIB) and IMPACT Beaverton (IMPACT).

The NPIB is a program of the Oregon Startup Center (OSC). Its mission is “to help build the capacity and community impact of nonprofit organizations delivering services in Beaverton and Washington County.” It is in the early stages of development, and the Director will lead the strategic growth and sustainability of the NPIB. Responsibilities include development of business model and programs, budget management, fundraising, marketing and communication, partnerships and collaborations, and NPIB center operations.

IMPACT is a collaboration between the City of Beaverton and the Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC). IMPACT staff provide one-on-one consultation, educational workshops, and other technical assistance to anyone looking to start or grow a small business in Beaverton. The Director works with one other staff member to develop and deliver a broad range of services and educational opportunities, including facilitation of the Kauffman FastTrac Entrepreneur Training Program.

The Director is officially an employee of the Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce and reports to the BACC CEO. The Director supports BACC with special events, outreach, and office coverage.

Key Elements of the Position:

  • The position is primarily in-person, splitting time among BACC and OSC / NPIB offices, plus external engagements with clients and partners.
  • The position requires occasional early morning, evening, and weekend activities.
  • The Director will provide leadership and guidance to other staff for both NPIB and IMPACT programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Nonprofit Incubator of Beaverton:

  • Strategic leadership for program growth, development, and sustainability
  • Manage center operations and programs (facility in Beaverton Building / City Hall)
  • Provide one-on-one technical support for individuals or teams looking to start or grow nonprofit organizations
  • Develop and deliver educational workshops and networking events that help to build the capacity and impact of nonprofit organizations
  • Build strong relationships throughout the region with funders, elected officials, government and educational agencies, and other support organizations
  • Create systems for tracking and reporting NPIB activities and outcomes to be used in fundraising, grant reporting, and community newsletters / publications
  • Support other OSC programs and operations

IMPACT Beaverton:

  • Provide one-on-one technical support for individuals or teams looking to start or grow a small business in Beaverton
  • Develop and deliver / facilitate educational workshops and networking events that help to small businesses get started, grow, and refine operations
  • Conduct outreach efforts to cultivate new clients and to support City of Beaverton programs and staff
  • Regularly attend regional small business support organization meetings and events, including the Washington County Small Business Support Network
  • Assist the City of Beaverton in research, data collection, and business retention around economic development and business support
  • Facilitate one or two annual offerings of the Kauffman FastTrac Entrepreneur Training Program

Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce:

  • Provide support for major Chamber events, including annual Gala, Community Expo, Golf Tournament, Beaverton Parade, and others
  • Assist with occasional Chamber partner events, including Ribbon Cuttings, Coffee Connections, Business After Hours, and others
  • Provide coverage for office and assist with walk-in clients and phone calls
  • Represent the Chamber with professionalism and dignity

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with extremely diverse constituents
  • Work both independently and with teams – with strong goal setting, prioritization, and execution of work plans
  • Balance multiple projects and priorities while ensuring high quality in all areas
  • Provide leadership in grant writing and resource development for both NPIB and IMPACT programs
